If you have opened three different guides on how to renew a maid permit online in Malaysia and found three different portal names, here is why. ePLKS@JIM was retired on 1 February 2025 and replaced by MyPass@JIM, which runs on the FWCMS platform. Most of what still ranks for this search was written before that change, or never updated after it.

This guide walks the 2026 renewal process end to end, in the order the steps actually have to happen. Where a fact comes straight from the Immigration Department, it is stated as fact. Where a fee or a turnaround time comes from agency sources, it is labelled that way, because nobody should plan a budget around a number that turns out to be a guess.

ePLKS Is Gone: What Replaced It and Why It Matters for Your Renewal

ePLKS@JIM is no longer the portal for renewing a foreign domestic helper’s permit. According to the Immigration Department of Malaysia’s official notice, MyPass@JIM replaced ePLKS@JIM effective 1 February 2025. Every PLKS renewal you file in 2026 goes through MyPass@JIM on the FWCMS platform.

If you searched for the e-PLKS login page, the login you need now is MyPass@JIM. FWCMS is the Foreign Workers Centralized Management System, and the FWCMS Help Center describes it as a single platform for managing foreign workers’ Visit Pass (Temporary Employment), or PL(KS). It is designed as one login for all foreign worker categories, domestic helpers included.

The practical rule is simple. If a guide tells you to log into “ePLKS” as a standalone portal to renew, it is out of date. Close it.

A fair warning about government portals: menu names and button text move around as FWCMS gets updated. The steps below describe the general path. Treat any label quoted here as roughly what you will see, and follow the live portal’s on-screen wording where the two differ.

When Can You Renew a Maid Permit in Malaysia?

You can submit a maid permit renewal within three months before the PL(KS) expiry date, according to the Immigration Department’s Foreign Domestic Helper page. The same page sets a second condition that catches employers out: the helper’s passport must have at least 12 months of validity remaining at the time of renewal.

The passport rule is the one people forget. If your helper’s passport falls short of 12 months, it has to be renewed at their embassy or consulate first, and only then can the PLKS renewal be submitted. Check the passport expiry date weeks before you plan to start, so an embassy wait never eats into your renewal window.

Some agency guides cite “7 days before expiry” as the last safe point to submit. That figure does not appear on the Immigration Department’s own page, so do not rely on it. FOMEMA and insurance both have to clear before you can file, and cutting it close leaves no room for either to slip.

Missing the deadline is the outcome to avoid. A permit that lapses leaves your helper in Illegal Stay status, and at that point you are dealing with the Immigration Department directly to sort it out, not clicking through a portal. In practice, start FOMEMA about 10 weeks before expiry so every gate clears inside the three-month window.

If you are an expatriate employer, check your eligibility for the online route with your State Immigration Office before you begin. Some agency guides describe separate paths for Malaysian and expatriate employers.

Before You Touch the FWCMS Application: FOMEMA and Insurance

Two things must be cleared before a PLKS renewal can go through: a FOMEMA medical examination and valid insurance cover. The Immigration Department’s FDH page makes FOMEMA mandatory for 2nd and 3rd year permit extensions, and several agency guides describe it as an annual requirement from January 2024 onward. So if you are renewing, plan on a fresh FOMEMA check for your helper every year, even though they passed one when they first arrived.

FOMEMA is booked and paid for online through the FOMEMA portal. The fee reported by Pinkcollar, a maid agency, is RM217. That is an agency-reported figure rather than a published government one, so confirm the current amount on the FOMEMA portal when you book. Pinkcollar also reports that results take 3 to 7 working days to reach the system before the renewal application can proceed. Treat that as agency-reported timing and build the buffer in.

Insurance is the second gate. Your helper needs a valid Insurance Guarantee and hospitalisation cover under FWHS or SPIKPA, and agency guides published in 2026 report that this cover must be digitally linked to your MyEG or FWCMS account before the portal will let you pay the levy. Renew the policies with your existing insurer or through MyEG, then log in and check that both show as active against your helper’s record before you start the application. If they don’t appear, the levy step is where you will get stuck.

The avoidable stall: logging into FWCMS, starting the application, and only then finding that FOMEMA results or insurance are not cleared. Sort both before you open the portal.

Step by Step: How to Renew Your Maid Permit Online on FWCMS/MyPass@JIM

To renew a maid permit online in Malaysia, you log into MyPass@JIM, start a PLKS application from the ePLKS menu, enter your helper’s details and documents, then pay the levy and visa fee in the portal. The sequence below comes from agency walkthroughs by Pinkcollar and Agensi Pekerjaan PCR, cross-checked against each other.

  1. Register or log in. New users register on the MyPass@JIM portal by selecting PENDAFTARAN (Malay for registration) and completing the FWCMS account form. If online registration fails, you will need to visit the State Immigration Office covering your helper’s employment address to complete it in person.
  2. Start the renewal. Once logged in, open the ePLKS menu, then PLKS Application, then New Application, then Enter Worker Details Manually. Yes, the menu still says ePLKS. That label is a holdover inside MyPass@JIM, not a sign you are on the old system.
  3. Enter the helper’s details. Keep the passport (with 12 months or more of validity), the FOMEMA results and proof of active insurance to hand. The application asks for all three.
  4. Pay the levy and visa fee. Payment happens through the portal. The Immigration Department’s FDH page also lists a bank draft or money order payable to the Director-General of Immigration as a traditional channel. The online FWCMS/MyEG flow is the one agency guides describe and the one this guide covers.
  5. Get the approval and the e-Pass. Industry sources dated 2026 report that approved passes are now issued as a digital e-Pass in PDF form in place of a physical sticker. We have not confirmed this against a primary government page, so check the confirmation inside the portal for the actual document format when you renew.

Once the pass is approved, check that the new expiry date is correct, save a copy for your records and give your helper a copy too. The Immigration Department does not publish an approval time, so the only reported timing in the whole process is the FOMEMA wait above. Allow slack after you submit.

How Much Does It Cost to Renew a Maid Permit in Malaysia?

There is no official published figure for the total cost of a maid permit renewal. The Immigration Department’s FDH page says the payment “includes the levy, visa fees according to the type of visa and the nationality of the FDH”, but gives no ringgit amount. Pinkcollar, a maid agency, estimates the total renewal cost at roughly RM610 to RM811, depending on the helper’s nationality.

Treat that range as indicative and subject to change. Pinkcollar does not break it down line by line, so don’t read a levy figure into it.

The nationality split matters. Pinkcollar cites Filipino and Indonesian helpers specifically, and the range reflects differences by nationality. If your helper is from the Philippines, you can compare agencies that specialise in Filipino maid placements; for helpers from Indonesia, see the Indonesian maid agency directory.

For an exact figure, check the live fee schedule in the FWCMS/MyPass@JIM portal on the day you apply. Levy and visa fees can change, and the portal is the only place that shows the number you will actually pay.

Should You Renew Your Maid Permit Online Yourself, or Use a Licensed Agency?

If you are renewing one helper’s permit and FOMEMA and insurance are already cleared, the online renewal is, in our view, a job most employers can do themselves in an evening. Be aware of who is telling you otherwise. When we checked the top five Google results for this search in September 2026, four were maid agency blogs, and each ended by offering to handle the renewal for you, usually citing portal complexity. The fifth was MyEG’s own renewal service page. That is a sales funnel, not neutral advice.

Doing it yourself makes sense if you are comfortable with a government portal, you are managing one helper’s permit, and you have mapped the FOMEMA and insurance steps with enough lead time before expiry.

An agency makes more sense if you are managing permits for more than one helper, you have hit a portal error you cannot resolve (such as a failed registration that forces a visit to the State Immigration Office), or your time is simply worth more than the agency’s service fee.

What an agency saves you is time: chasing FOMEMA bookings, sorting insurance paperwork and troubleshooting the portal. The government fees stay the same, because the levy and visa fees are identical whoever submits the application. Ask any agency for a quote that lists their service fee separately from the levy and visa fees. If they won’t split it, you can’t compare.

If you decide to outsource, do not pick blind from a Google ad or a Facebook group recommendation. Start from agencies checked against the JTKSM government register in our directory of licensed maid agencies. Your 2026 Maid Permit Renewal Checklist

Here is the whole renewal in the order the Immigration Department’s rules force on you.

  2. Book FOMEMA and allow the reported 3 to 7 working days for results.
  3. Renew the Insurance Guarantee and FWHS or SPIKPA cover, and confirm both show in your account.
  4. Log into MyPass@JIM, the portal that replaced ePLKS on 1 February 2025.
  5. File the PLKS application inside the three-month window before expiry, then pay the levy and visa fee in the portal.
  6. Check the new expiry date on the approved pass, and keep a copy for you and one for your helper.
